What is a tow package?

A tow package is a set of components and features that are added to a vehicle to increase its towing capability. This package typically includes a hitch receiver, wiring harness, and sometimes a transmission cooler or enhanced suspension.

The hitch receiver is a metal bar that is attached to the rear of the vehicle and provides a connection point for a trailer or other towed object. The wiring harness allows the vehicle to control the lights on the trailer, such as brake lights and turn signals, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.

A transmission cooler is sometimes included in a tow package to help dissipate heat generated when towing heavy loads, preventing damage to the transmission. Enhanced suspension components may also be included to help improve stability and handling while towing.

Tow packages are typically offered as an optional upgrade when purchasing a new vehicle, but can also be added to an existing vehicle through aftermarket installation. It is important to ensure that a vehicle's tow package is properly installed and maintained to ensure safe and efficient towing.
